BMW reveals 543-hp M3 CS Touring—but you can’t have it

The German performance wagon just got even hotter for 2025, with more power and less weight than a Competition Touring

  • Anyone else drooling? BMW’s hottest new wagon, the 2025 M3 CS Touring, throws down 543 hp
  • The long-roof uses that grunt to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from zero in just 3.5 seconds
  • Unfortunately, we won’t be getting any sort of M3 Touring in Canada (but at least we’ll get M5)

Following up the new sedan variant of its 2025 M3, BMW late January introduced the M3 CS Touring, a station wagon with 543 horsepower and recent subscription to a SlimFast weight-reduction plan. Grunt is courtesy the same inline-six engine found in the M3 Competition Touring, meaning you’ll find twin turbochargers and 3.0L of displacement. Power is up by 20 ponies compared to the Competition trim, reaching 543 hp by way turbo boost pressure cranked to 30.5 psi. Torque is unchanged at 479 lb-ft of twist.

To help wrangle that newfound power, the CS gets an optional strut brace, better engine mounts, and improved cooling. Interestingly, BMW says the cylinder head has a 3D-printed core.

Lines can be painted on tarmac through an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel-drive, features which help shove the car to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.5 seconds. The groceries have never gotten home so fast. The must-have M Driver’s package, optional on other variants, is standard on the CS Touring, and whips top speed to 300 km/h (186 mph). We bet you can slightly exceed that velocity with a simple tailwind. Dampers have been retuned for track duty and tires are 19 inches front, 20 rear.

A weight-reduction program shaves 15 kilograms from the CS Touring compared to a Competition Touring, thanks to carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) appearing in the hood, front splitter and air intakes, exterior mirror caps, and rear diffuser. This can all be added back in the way of cargo, such as parts for your race car, or cheese wheels, given the nearly 20 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats. Practical and fast? We’re down.
