BBC Strictly Come Dancing’s Johannes Radebe reveals exciting news about upcoming film

Strictly Come Dancing sensation Johannes Radebe has thrilled fans with the news that his life story is heading to the silver screen.

The star dancer graced the set of Lorraine on Friday (January 31), where he chatted with host Ranvir Singh about the forthcoming film, which draws inspiration from his 2023 memoir Jojo: Finally Home.

“It is so exciting. It’s signed, sealed and it’s gonna be delivered – I hope soon. That’s the beautiful thing, writers are coming on board, there’s producers on board,” he excitedly shared. “It will all be revealed in time, but I’m just so happy that I get to take it back to the township.”

Ranvir playfully queried, “How are you going to cast Johannes? What a strange experience,” to which Johannes responded: “There are so many Jojos running around the townships, I can’t tell you. I get to go home every time and do work with them, so it won’t be hard at all.”

Johannes’ memoir poignantly recounts his journey of using dance as a means to combat homophobic discrimination during his upbringing in the South African township of Zamelda, reports .

The adaptation, tentatively titled Finally Home, has recently made significant progress with Argo Films joining the production team, working alongside the previously confirmed Arrested Industries and Helena Spring Films.

“Growing up gay in the townships of South Africa was not an easy ride, but there were so many good things about my life there, and it has made me the person I am today,” Johannes reflected on the venture.

“I never imagined my story would end up on the big screen, so I am greatly appreciative of this new opportunity and look forward to working closely with Helena and Anthony over the coming months.”

The eagerly anticipated Finally Home will be shot in locales spanning the UK and South Africa. Johannes will bring his expertise to the fore, choreographing the movie’s dance routines, with more casting news expected soon.

The dance sensation isn’t slowing down either, having recently made a sparkling musical debut in Kinky Boots. He’s treading the boards as Lola in the Made at Curve production – a role he’ll dazzle in until July 26 at Oxford’s New Theatre.
