Barclays customers have been hit by huge technical problems today
Barclays customers have been thrown into chaos as a significant outage struck the bank, leaving countless individuals unable to access their accounts on what is for many payday.
Reports of problems with the mobile banking app and online banking services began flooding in from 9.45am, with users unable to execute payments or verify if wages had been deposited.
DownDetector has logged over 3,000 complaints regarding Barclays’ digital services, with a majority indicating issues with mobile banking and 42% struggling with internet banking access.
The disruption has led to a wave of discontent among clients, prompting them to express their grievances on social media platforms.
One exasperated customer remarked on X (formerly Twitter): “Barclays is down again. I think it’s time to switch.”
Another vented: “I’m trying to pay my tax and your online banking keeps crashing. You did anticipate it being a busy day, right? ” A third added their voice: “I’m trying to pay but my payment won’t go through despite me confirming in the app? “.

In response to the mounting complaints, the Barclays UK Help team acknowledged: “We’re aware of some issues which are being investigated as urgent.”
Frustrations boiled over as one customer declared: “Final straw for me this, I’ll be moving my business’ account elsewhere. Can’t pay wages etc..”
Another shared their failed transaction experience: “I tried my card in the shop and I the machine and both declined even though I have funds available so no cards and machines may not be used! ! ! ! ! “.

A spokesperson for Barclays has issued an apology and an update on the current technical difficulties, stating: “We’re having some problems with some of our systems today – we’re sorry about this and we’re working hard to fix the issue.”
They further explained the impact on customers: “You may have trouble using some features in our app, Online Banking as well as payments in and out of your accounts – we’re also unable to help you over the telephone or our Message us service.”
However, they reassured that normal card and cash machine use is unaffected, advising customers: “You can still use your cards and cash machines as normal. For updates and to request a text when we’re back up and running search ‘Barclays service status’ online.”
