Avanti West Coast trains will be operating with a reduced service on Sunday
Rail passengers are urged to check their journeys on Sunday (February 2) before travelling due to a staff walk out amid ongoing train strikes.
Resumed strike action will see members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) at Avanti West Coast stage a walkout due to a dispute over rest day working.
Strikes were originally planned for the past two weekends across January yet were called off. However, action is now resuming this weekend, with the threat of further action over the next few months, too.
Sunday will see trains operate at a reduced timetable due to fewer services running. There will also be limited working hours meaning the trains that are running are expected to be busy.

Network Rail will also be carrying out planned engineering work in the Crewe area with the aim of minimising further disruption. Some services will be diverted as a result.
Services affected on Sunday:
- No direct Avanti West Coast trains between London and Liverpool
- London Euston will operate one train per hour to each of Birmingham, Manchester and Preston
- London Euston will operate a limited service to Glasgow
- No Avanti West Coast services across North Wales, Blackpool and Edinburgh
Due to the limited hours, the first train leaving London Euston station on Sunday will be just before 9am – the last train of the day will depart around 5pm.
Those with pre-booked tickets for Sunday can use them to travel on alternative dates between Saturday and Tuesday. Refunds are also available for passengers.

Kathryn O’Brien, customer experience director at Avanti West Coast, said: “With RMT strike action, as well as engineering work in the Crewe area, impacting our services this Sunday, we are advising customers to check before they travel.
“We’re disappointed that the RMT strike action is ongoing, and will impact our customers who may be working, visiting family and friends, or enjoying days out.
“Those with pre-booked tickets and don’t wish to travel on Sunday can claim a full fee-free refund. I would like to thank all of our customers for their continued patience and understanding.”
An RMT spokesman said: “We remain ready and available at any time for talks to make progress on settling this rest day working dispute.”
