Unai Emery is keen to bring in an attacker to replace Jhon Duran , and Rashford would fit the bill as a proven goalscorer.
Villa may have some difficulty in luring Rashford to Villa Park as he is keen to either join Barcelona or stay at Old Trafford this month.
But Emery may be able to convince the 27-year-old to sign on the dotted line by handing him his favourite shirt number.
Rashford currently wears the No. 10 shirt for United and would likely want to keep his preferred digits if he was to leave Old Trafford this month.
Villa are one of the few clubs that are able to offer the shirt without taking it from another player after the previous occupant, Emiliano Buendia, left the club this week.
Buendia, 28, previously wore the shirt this term, but the Argentinian has joined Bayer Leverkusen on loan until the end of the season.

That leaves the No. 10 jersey vacant for Rashford or potentially another player to take, with Villa boss Emery also considering other targets.
Rashford’s salary could prove to be a stumbling block as he currently earns over £300,000 a week at United.
Villa would be expected to cover a large portion of his wages if he moves on loan and that alone could set them back around £6m for a six-month loan.
The Englishman is thought to be open to staying at United, but with indicating he has no future while he is in charge, he could be forced to leave.

Villa would offer him the chance to play an important role in the second half of the season, with Emery’s side currently seventh in the and through to the Champions League last-16 knockout stage.
If they fail to land Rashford, playmaker Joao Felix and PSG winger Marco Asensio are long-term targets for the Spaniard and both could be available for loan or transfer in the final days of the window.
Villa are also one of the clubs monitoring Mathys Tel’s situation after he reportedly turned down a £50m move to on Friday.
