The Apprentice’s Karren and Tim Campbell brand contestants ‘obnoxious’ in new series

is back for its 19th season, with 18 new candidates competing like fury to win an investment from Lord Sugar. Also returning are the familiar trusty aides – Baroness Karren Brady and Tim Campbell, who won the first-ever series in 2005.

Speaking exclusively to Express Online, the pair opened up about this year’s candidates, with Karren admitting that some of the contestants were ‘obnoxious.’

“It’s more obnoxious, and probably the better word when you’re a bit obnoxious, and all you’re thinking about is yourself,” she confessed.

“How do I show what I can do? How do I make sure I don’t get blame? How do I make sure I get the credit? That can be quite difficult in a process like this.”

Tim added, “I think there were quite a few.” They also disclosed that they can never tell who will win the series based on the first task.

When asked what the worst task they had witnessed during their time on the show was, Tim recalled, “Oh gosh, I remember when they had to create a design for a toothbrush.

“So, it was the famous green and brown toothbrush that ended up looking or being described as rather turd-like.”

Karren added: “That was the cruise ship episode. When they had to do a cruise, and my team did that brown wave, I remember, and one of the people said it looked like a turd, I mean, and then directly after that, the toothbrush, which was still brown.”

In similar news, Karren thinks Chancellor has made a huge “misstep” – and says the current government “lacks understanding” around business.

With the news reporting that millionaires and billionaires are leaving the UK to set up businesses overseas, Karren criticised the current government.

She said: “I think I’d like to see a bit more positivity. All they talk about is the negative – how bad a shape the country’s in. What businesses want is stability and optimism, and if people are told they should be scared because the country’s in a mess, then they don’t go out and spend any money.

“They don’t invest in things. They don’t go to the high street. All of the businesses that require people to go out and spend their money don’t survive.”

The Apprentice starts at 9pm on One and iPlayer.
