We are now just one day away from the start of the most famous rugby tournament in the world. On Friday night, the 2025 will kick-off in Paris, with France hosting in what promises to be an acid test for Warren Gatland’s men.

But Gatland is far from the only coach under scrutiny heading into the tournament. boss and his squad were left reeling from their Autumn International games, which yielded three straight defeats before a solitary win against Japan.

The Red Roses start their campaign with a massive clash at home in on Saturday. The Irish are aiming to become the first side to win the title three years in a row, but will have to make do without head coach Andy Farrell, who is now on a sabbatical ahead of taking charge of the tour to Australia in the summer.

And will this finally be the year where Scotland turn promise and potential into results? If so, victory in Edinburgh against Italy this weekend is an absolute necessity, but Gregor Townsend’s men have their injury problems going into their opener.

Ireland face further injury problems

Ireland outside half Sam Prendergast is a doubt for Saturday’s Six Nations opener against England after suffering a dead leg.

Prendergast had his leg strapped on Wednesday but did take part in training. Assistant coach Andrew Goodman said the coaching staff did expect Prendergast to be “all right” to play.

Prop Tadhg Furlong has already been ruled out after suffering a recurrence of a calf injury at Ireland’s training camp in Portugal.

Steve Borthwick under pressure as England face Ireland

Steve Borthwick has been warned that a poor campaign for England could see the end of his tenure.

Former international No.10 Toby Flood said: “He is absolutely under pressure. He needs something in this tournament, something concrete. He needs to win the three home games minimum although those days of England being bankers at home have gone.”
