Princess Beatrice’s baby Athena’s name has special link to lesser known royal

‘s newborn daughter shares a special connection with one lesser-known royal.

Joining her two elder siblings, .

Her birth was publicly announced one week later, on January 29. The young royal is thought to have been born a few weeks premature.

She arrived at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital earlier than expected, weighing 4lbs and 5oz.

Although her name has been used in the British Royal Family before, Athena is also the name of Denmark’s King Frederik X’s niece.

Countess Athena, now aged 15, is the daughter of Prince Joachim and Princess Marie. She is currently ninth in line to the Danish throne and is the youngest grandchild of Queen Margrethe.

She was born an HRH and with the title of Princess, but that changed when Queen Margrethe later decided that only the children of her elder child, Frederik, should have royal styles.

Beatrice and Edoardo also chose an unusual name for their first daughter, Sienna, born in September 2021.

On Wednesday, the Royal Family released a statement on behalf of Athena’s proud parents, which read: “Her Royal Highness and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, born on Wednesday, 22nd January, at 12:57pm. The baby was born weighing 4 pounds and 5 ounces.

“The King and Queen, and other members of The Royal Family have all been informed and are delighted with the news. and Mr Mapelli Mozzi would like to thank all the staff at the hospital for their wonderful care.

“Her Royal Highness and her daughter are healthy and doing well, and the family are enjoying spending time together with Athena’s older siblings, Wolfie and Sienna.”
