North Korea’s new mega-beach resort with 27 huge hotels – costing £1,400 to per stay

is set to open its mega beach resort. The new holiday site, marked as “one of the world’s most eco-friendly destinations”, can accommodate up to 10,000 guests per day.

The will welcome Russian nationals as its first visitors in July 2025. The holiday spot claims to offer a peaceful escape despite North Korea’s repeated nuclear threats and totalitarian rule.

The tourist site

However, it faced a number of delays, and in 2019, construction work was put to a stop.

Today, according to Vladivostok-based travel agency Vostok Intur and a tourist map seen by NK News (an American outlet covering North Korea), the area features a whopping 17 large hotels, 37 smaller hostels, 29 shopping centres and 35 public service establishments.

also shared that Vostok Intur announced that it plans to send the first group of tourists to Wonsan Kalma from July 7 to July 14.

Two more groups of visitors will then follow from August 4 to August 11 and August 18 to August 25.

The company’s Telegram post reads: “Be one of the first guests and enjoy an unforgettable history in one of the world’s most eco-friendly destinations, with top-notch entertainment for any budget, restaurants for all tastes, and a 5-kilometre beach on the coast of the Sea of Japan (East Sea).”

They shared that a package including an itinerary of “seven nights with full board, all flights and sightseeing tours in Pyongyang on the way back” will cost around $1,750 (£1,400).

Inna Mukhina, the agency director, told NK News that there will be no direct flights from Vladivostok to Wonsan, even though the resort is located next to a large airport that features an international passenger terminal.

Those who hope to visit the resort will have to travel to and then take a domestic flight to the East Coast.
