New weather maps show a nearly 400 miles long heading for Britain next month on Valentine’s Day night.

The UK looks set to be getting the cold shoulder on February 14 and 15 just as many couples and new lovers will be hoping to heat up their romance.

are forecast on new maps from WXCharts which show the snow as a huge band of purple barrelling towards the country from the Atlantic.

Weather charts appear to suggest the cold front will stretch from the far north of Scotland reaching right down to northern England and north Wales.

Large cities like Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Manchester could be affected by the cold condtions.

A forecast from the for February 14 until February 27 predicted the north and north west would bear the brunt of new weather fronts, with “cold spells” expected.

It said: “There are signs that there may be somewhat of a north-south or northwest-southeast split to the UK’s weather through this period.

“The north or northwest is likely to bear the brunt of wet and windy spells, whilst towards the south or southeast, it may be drier and more settled.

It went on to say that “colder spells” are likely and that it was the south at “greatest risk.”

The forecast said: “Some rain is still likely at times here though, as are brief drier spells further north.

“Temperatures will probably be close to average overall, but some milder spells are likely, especially in the north.”

It added: “Brief colder spells are likely in between weather systems though, and the south is likely to be at greatest risk of seeing some overnight frost and fog.”

Today:

Most areas will have a dry day with early frost and mist clearing to leave plenty of sunshine, with a gentle breeze. However, it will be windier in the far northeast with blustery showers, and isolated showers in the west.

Tonight:

Fine at first with clear periods. However, thickening cloud and rain moving south and east across the UK overnight, giving some hill snow. Patchy frost ahead, and following the rain.

Friday:

Rather cloudy across central, southern and eastern areas with rain and hill snow slowly dying out. Some hill fog. Mostly fine further north and west with bright or sunny spells.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Mostly dry though rather cloudy on Saturday. Turning wet and windy in the northwest. Rain edging southeast and easing on Sunday. Further wind and rain in northwest Monday. Fine elsewhere.
