A 215-mile band of snow could strike the UK, stretching from eastern Devon to South Yorkshire, according to an online forecaster.

The snow wall is expected to strike on February 9, with flurries hovering over parts of the West Country, the Midlands and southern Yorkshire, according to WX Charts.

At the same time, there could be snow along the western coast of Scotland and the north-west corner of Cumbria in England.

Earlier in the day, there may be snowfall, heavy in places, on the English and Scottish east coasts. The band may arrive around 6am, with frosty downpours striking from Lincolnshire up to the Central Belt of Scotland.

The north-east of Scotland, around Aberdeen, could also see snow.

However, British Weather Services’ boss Jim Dale is less convinced there will be snowfall in early February.

“From what I can see right now is that one necessary ingredient will be there in abundance -and that’s cold”, he said.

“The other much less so, as with the cold comes a lack of precipitation”. He added that “sunshine and fog” is expected in place of the moisture necessary for snowfall.

However, he did not completely rule out snow later in the month.

“It may well get a little more interesting later month when the Atlantic systems try to roll back in, but even then I’d expect any snow events to be transient, noting we are only 30 days away from meteorological spring”, he said.

Meanwhile, there are yellow weather warnings in place for the north of Northern Ireland and northern Scotland.

The warnings are both for ice and are both in place until 10am today.
