A legendary musician collapsed mid-performance during a show in , leaving fans stunned and worried for her wellbeing.
Patti Smith fell at the Teatro Cultura Artística in São Paulo, reportedly hitting her head on the floor. The incident came after the music icon had complained of severe migraines earlier in the day.
The venue quickly reassured fans, confirming that Patti had felt dizzy while performing and was receiving care from doctors. A statement read: “She is being closely monitored by top medical staff.”
But in a brave move, the star returned to the stage shortly after, performing her iconic hit Because the Night, a moment described by the venue as unforgettable for all those present.
The punk rock legend is set to perform again tonight at the same venue with the experimental group Soundwalk Collective.

This isn’t the first health scare for the rocker – in December 2023, a concert in Bologna, Italy, was cancelled after she was rushed to the hospital with a “sudden illness.”

Patti’s songwriting credentials include 1978’s Because the Night, which she co-wrote with Bruce Springsteen, and which reached number 13 on the Billboard charts.
Widely hailed for her raw punk energy and poetic lyrics, Patti was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 and won a Grammy Hall of Fame Award in 2021 for her groundbreaking album Horses.
She’s been nominated for Grammy Awards four times, and in 2023, Rolling Stone named her one of the greatest singers of all time.
Despite her punk rock roots, Patti once admitted that as a child, she daydreamed about becoming an opera singer. “I guess I got a lot of guts, but I never really had that great a voice,” she said in 2016. “I think it’s basically guts.”
