Michelle Obama shares ‘message from Barack and I’ amid divorce rumours

The Former First Lady, 61 posted from the Obama Foundation to pay tribute to Hadiya Pendleton, a “vibrant 15-year-old whose life was tragically taken by gun violence in a Chicago Park” just days after performing at husband inauguration in 2013.

The couple announced they would be opening a memorial garden in her honour in the Obama Presidential Centre in the city.

Rumours have continued about the pair’s marriage following Michelle’s absence from several high-profile events in recent months.

Lat May, Michelle’s mother Marian Robinson passed away, leading the former lawyer to take a step back from public duties.

Speaking at the in August, Michelle explained how grief had almost stopped her from being able to appear.

She told the crowd at Chicago’s United Centre: “I still feel her loss so profoundly – I wasn’t even sure I’d be steady enough to stand before you tonight.”

Last year, Meghan McCain and journalist Tara Palmieri both said they had heard that the Obama’s lead separate lives, adding fuel to rumours that their marriage was under strain.

Journalist Megyn Kelly also used her show to speculate on the state of the Obama marriage.

She said: “I do not know whether this is true at all. But if it is true, it truly would be a political earthquake in Democrat circles, nevermind America. I don’t remember a presidential divorce in modern history.”

Barack has spoken of their marital struggles in the past as the pair, who met at university, transitioned to become one of the most famous couples in the world.

Speaking at The Breakfast Club, the explained that whenever they argued, they would never let things get ugly and that he would never consider a divorce.

He said: “We were pretty good even when things were tough, we never loss basic respect for the other person.

“We never thought that person was a bad person. We never said things that would make it seem that you completely disrespect me.

“It was more, “I love you, Barack, but this is driving me crazy,” or, “I respect you, but…” I think that’s what kept us ’cause we never doubted each other’s intentions.

“Michelle is a remarkable woman. Even if she drives me crazy sometimes, I never thought that there was anybody who I would rather be with.”
