I gave my bedroom a luxury hotel update with these £35 Marks and Spencer lamps

When the New Year comes around, it can often feel like your home is in need of an interior refresh. Marks and Spencer do some chic yet affordable homeware and I was delighted when I came across these for £35. 

Having already sold out in the silver colour, I didn’t delay in adding the navy and antique brass version to my basket, imagining them as the perfect finishing touch for my bedroom. 

The elegant quickly became the focal point of my room, with a soft velvet shade contrasting beautifully against the curved wire base. I was very impressed with the quality of the lamps for the price – in comparison, this similar table lamp from would set you back £165, although it is currently on sale for £89.10. 

is £55 and gives a comparable look, however it does offer a clever touch on/off feature giving it a sleek finish.

For a cheaper alternative, the fom Next retails for £30 and shoppers say it ‘provides warm light in the evening’.

The are the perfect size to fit onto a bedside table without taking over the space or making the space look cluttered. You will have to pop a bulb in yourself but other than that no assembly is required. 

I’m not the only one who is singing the praises of the Madrid lamp, it has racked up 150 reviews on the M&S website, giving it an overall score of 4.5 out of five. 

One person said: “Classy lamp looks beautiful in our lounge, I got 2 in blue and they match in with our ceiling lamp. Arrived very well packaged. The best we’ve found just had to have them.” 

A second wrote: “Gorgeous lamps. Using them in the bedroom & are a perfect size. Great quality shade. Looks amazing with the matching light fitting.”

However, while I found them the ideal size for my space, someone else said they were ‘a bit smaller than expected’, so it’s well worth measuring the area first. The Madrid lamps come in at Height: 40.5 cm, Width: 26 cm and Length: 26 cm. 

Another customer adored how ‘unique’ the lamps are, commenting: “Loved the retro style of this lampshade and stand.”
