BBC host Fiona Bruce’s off-air ‘secret’ spilled by Bridget Jones star on The One Show

Bridget Jones star Sarah Solemani let slip a ‘secret’ about ‘s esteemed newsreader and Antiques Roadshow presenter Fiona Bruce, which is sure to raise eyebrows among her admirers.

Gracing the sofa of ‘s The One Show, Sarah delved into her experience portraying Miranda in the latest instalment of the Bridget Jones saga, headlined by Renee Zellweger, when she disclosed Fiona’s unexpected role in her preparation.

Chatting with hosts Alex Jones and Roman Kemp, Sarah recounted: “For the last movie we wanted to do some research so Renee and I went to the studio, we met Fiona and she talked us through. At the time I think she sometimes did the Six O Clock and the 10 O Clock.”

Impersonating Fiona, Sarah quipped: “I do the Six O Clock and the 10 O Clock and sometimes in between I go to the hotel and have a cocktail.” To which Alex playfully confirmed: “She does!”

Sarah, continuing her behind-the-scenes chat with Fiona, added: “I said, ‘you have a cocktail between the news?’ I said ‘have you ever had two?’ She said ‘I have had two, the trouble with two is you begin not to care?'” reports .

As the studio erupted with laughter from guests Trinny Woodhall and Keeley Hawes, Alex endorsed the tale: “This is true – she’s amazing.”

Roman expressed his admiration for Sarah’s spot-on impersonation, while Sarah herself confessed: “My dream role is actually to be Fiona Bruce.”

Alex concluded with a knowing nod: “Many layers to Fiona Bruce.”

The newest chapter in the Bridget Jones saga, Mad About The Boy, is set to hit the shelves in February. The plot summary reveals: Bridget Jones finally experiences some good fortune; she enjoys a successful career as a screenwriter, has a loving family and a new beau. However, the fact that he’s over two decades her junior isn’t the only issue causing turbulence.

Elsewhere on The One Show, Keeley was chatting about her new role in the prime-time Sunday night drama Miss Austen while Trinny was talking about her role as a guest dragon on ‘s Dragons’ Den.

Miss Austen, which starts this weekend, is set in 1830. A letter arrives at Chawton Cottage, where Cassandra Austen (played by Keeley) has lived alone for many years since the death of her sister Jane.
