Mother to twins who suffocated in a cedar toy chest shares that she’s pregnant

Sadie Myers, the Jacksonville, Florida, mother whose 4-year-old twin girls unexpectedly died inside a toy chest in 2023, shared that she is having another baby.

Myers shared that she is pregnant and 32 weeks along in a Jan. 26 Facebook post.

“#LennoxKellan is the size of a Papaya, and weighs about 4lbs! #32WeeksPregnant,” she wrote in the post alongside a photo that featured her belly.

Myers and her family did not immediately respond to TODAY.com’s request for comment.

In the comments section of the post, users supported her news, offering congratulations.

Myers’ news comes nearly a year and a half after her twin girls were found unresponsive inside a cedar toy chest in August 2023.

Authorities initially investigated the incident, with homicide Lt. Adam Blinn telling TODAY.com at the time, “We are working with our partners at the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death.”

“We don’t know if this was an accident or foul play is involved,” his statement continued.

Myers shared on Facebook that the girls, who she noted enjoyed sleeping in unconventional places, curled up in the chest on their own to sleep and had unknowingly shut themselves inside.

“Sometime during their sleep one of them must have moved or kicked during a dream and it caused the lid of this old wooden cedar chest to close,” Myers wrote. “Something I did not know and I’m sure many others don’t know is that most wooden toy chests once closed are AIR TIGHT and also sound proof.”

“So as they slept, all snuggled up together, they slowly ran out of oxygen within a couple of hours and passed away,” she added. “They never even knew it was happening. There wasn’t a sudden gasp for air, it was a very slow transition from sleep to passing on …”

By morning, after a panicked search, the family made the discovery.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued safety warnings regarding cedar and toy chests in the past.

In 2014, following the death of two other siblings who suffocated to death after becoming trapped inside a cedar chest, the commission warned that chests should have ventilation holes that are not blocked by flooring or walls.
