LBC police row turns explosive as star ‘loses it’ with caller: ‘Get a grip!’

A row live on turned explosive as presenter Ben Kentish “lost it” with a caller.

The pair were debating UK officers when things turned awkward, with Ben fuming: “Get a grip!”

Caller Andrew phoned in to the programme and made the comparison of British cops with members of the Gestapo, which didn’t sit right with Ben, who fumed: “The idea that in any way their support for the law and upholding it somehow justifies even a little bit violence against them is grotesque.”

Andrew held his own, suggesting: “They should leave the job.”

Ben asked: “What, they should all leave the job because they don’t like the law? What do you want them to do, Andrew? They’ve got kids to feed, they’ve got families to support.”

Andrew hit back: “If you think the law’s unjust, would you join the Nazi party?” and Ben lost it, fuming: “Oh, get a grip Andrew! Get a grip, come on!”

The caller said: “You don’t understand, like I said, about the deep inequality and the persecution of children who have nothing-“

“I do understand,” Ben replied. “What I don’t understand is the comparison between people upholding the law in a 21st century liberal democracy, whether you agree with private education or taxation levels or not, and being a member of the SS.

“I’m really sorry, sir, but respectfully – give your head a wobble. That is an outrageous thing to say. Thank you Andrew,” he added before terminating the call.
