Grantchester star Tom Brittney shared the advice he gave to his replacement Rishi Nair as he moves on after his six-year stint.
Vicar Will Davenport (played by Tom Brittney) departed the stunning fictional village earlier this month to take on “tougher challenges” in Newcastle after the bishop offered him a new position there.
Brittney had initially taken over from actor James Norton who was vicar Sidney Chambers for the first four seasons before he made his own departure.
Now a new face is taking over with former Hollyoaks star Rishi Nair joining the hit ITV crime series as Alphy Kotteram.
But prior to Brittney leaving, he made sure to give Nair some advice which had been given to him when he joined Grantchester.
During a revealing Q&A session, Tom shared: “I remember you [Nair] came into the hotel when we were filming, it was the first time I saw this handsome man and we just chatted.
“You asked me some questions about it. I passed on the same tips James [Norton] passed onto me.”

“You will find an easier way to get into the costume as it goes on. Laugh at Robson’s [Green] jokes like you haven’t heard them a hundred times and you can hide your phone in your top pocket.
“And that was the three that James gave me and they worked for me so I passed them on.
“But we didn’t have a handshake episode like me and James had so once I left, Rishi was kind of on his own and instantly just took to it.”
Geordie Keating’s Robson Green has also given his own tips on working on the show, stressing how essential it is to “get to know the team” that works both behind and in front of the camera.

“They love it as much as you do, no one’s judgemental, there’s no ego around there, that’s all in my trailer,” he quipped.
“But in the end, I always think there’s no pressure here.
“I guarantee you will look back on this and I envy the journey Rishi has got ahead of him and Tom as I celebrate my 60th year on this planet.
“They’ll look back on this journey, this experience, with such fondness and love and joy and something that brings a smile to your face.”
Grantchester season nine continues every Wednesday at 9pm on ITV and ITVX.
