Beloved rom-com based on bestseller is coming to Channel 5

The popular series The Road Trip is set to hit Channel 5 this month. The show, an adaptation of Beth O’Leary’s book of the same name, will start airing on January 30, with the first episode premiering at 10pm.

The Road Trip was launched in December 2024, developed by 42 in collaboration with VIS for Paramount+. Before its scheduled release on Channel 5, the series was exclusively available for streaming on Paramount+ or Amazon Prime Video.

The six-part series boasts a star-studded cast including Emma Appleton, Laurie Davidson, David Jonsson, Isabella Laughland, Angus Imrie and Adrian Lukis.

The plot summary for the series states: “A wedding trip to Spain takes an unexpected turn for Addie and her sister Deb when they’re forced to share a campervan with Addie’s ex Dylan, his friend Marcus, and a stranger Rodney.The group confronts their tangled past.”

The series was produced by Nikki Wilson, with Kingsley Hoskins serving as co-producer. The writing team includes Matilda Wnek, Ryan O’Sullivan, Phoebe Eclair-Powell and Waleed Akhtar, reports .

China Moo-Young and Stella Corradi directed the show, while Miriam Brent, Rory Aitken and Eleanor Moran were executive producers. Filming took place in Bristol and Gran Canaria throughout 2023.

Beth’s novel of the same name was published in April 2021 and rapidly climbed the best-seller charts.

The full synopsis of the book states: “Addie and her sister are about to embark on an epic road trip to a friend’s wedding in the north of Scotland. The playlist is all planned and the snacks are packed.

“But, not long after setting off, a car slams into the back of theirs. The driver is none other than Addie’s ex, Dylan, who she’s avoided since their traumatic break-up two years earlier.

“Dylan and his best mate are heading to the wedding too, and they’ve totalled their car, so Addie has no choice but to offer them a ride. The car is soon jam-packed full of luggage and secrets, and with three hundred miles ahead of them, Dylan and Addie can’t avoid confronting the very messy history of their relationship… Will they make it to the wedding on time? And, more importantly… is this really the end of the road for Addie and Dylan?”
