Ange Postecoglou has gone through a horrific run of form.
have been warned that their poor form cannot be solely blamed on .
They need to give the inspirational Aussie until the end of the season, when a review would take place, according to former Spurs and goalkeeper Michel Vorm.
Spurs lie 15th in the table, with five points from 11 matches, but Postecoglou has been forced to work with a threadbare squad as a result of decimating injuries.
There are on Monday , a decision that Vorm is on board with.
“The issue lies deeper than just the manager,” Vorm told Express Sport with 888sport. “I was at the game on Sunday [2-1 defeat to ] and you can see the pressure on the players when they play at home.
“The players were trying hard, the commitment was good, but it seems whatever the players are trying, just isn’t coming off. The injuries to the two centre-backs has been tough and also [Guglielmo] Vicario. It wasn’t long ago since Spurs won 4-0 at . I don’t see an overnight change if a new manager comes in.
Michel Vorm believes that Tottenham should stand by Ange Postecoglou.
“Firstly, Spurs must get the players back fit from their starting XI as we know they can compete when they have everyone ready. You need to look at the whole organisation now and see where you want the club to go, what style of football you want to play and then make a decision. But mid-season isn’t going to change a lot.”
bosses have been linked with replacing Postecoglou, but all three are thought to be unlikely to pack up and leave their current clubs in the middle of the season.
Vorm is of the opinion that Postecoglou should be given the opportunity to turn a dismal league campaign around, once his first-team players return from injury, then assess his future prospects in the summer.
“If you don’t have the answer then there is no point letting the manager go,” Vorm added. There is no clear manager who can come in and transform the team. So it’s more of a review at the end of the season and then look to evaluate then.”
One minor benefit to Spurs’ turgid form has been the emergence of Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall and Mikey Moore.
With the young trio proving they can compete at the top level, coupled with the returns of Postecoglou’s many injured stars, Vorm reckons the squad are capable of turning their season around.
Daniel Levy has opted against swinging the axe thus far.
“I don’t know how long the injuries are going to keep [Micky] Van de Ven, [Cristian] Romero, Vicario and [Dominic] Solanke out for, but If they can return soon, then Spurs do have a good team,” Vorm said.
“So, based on this, the manager and Daniel [Levy] can look to see who could come in to support the squad.
“The youngsters who have come in are going to give Spurs a bright future, but the confidence just isn’t good right now and they need these players back.”
