Peace lilies will bloom beautifully for longer with 1 natural kitchen item
make for brilliant , but many are put off from owning one as it can be a struggle to get them to .
According to guru Hannah Rowson from , three needs have to be met with peace lilies – location, feeding, and watering.
She said: “To encourage blooms on your peace lily, meet its lighting and watering conditions. With the arrival of warmer spring temperatures, you should start to see blooms.”
When it comes to location, while peace lilies will survive in shadier spots, they “will thrive in bright, indirect light”.
They will benefit from a chunky soil mix with water-retaining properties as they will prefer evenly moist soil.

Peace lilies “will thrive in bright, indirect light”
For those looking to keep their peace lilies perky, it’s best to place them where the temperature hovers consistently around 15 degrees.
Be wary of draughts and direct sunlight which can harm these plants; keeping conditions stable is key to “encouraging new growth” throughout the seasons.
She stressed the importance of plant nutrition: “It’s important to feed your houseplant as well. Steeped banana skins are a fantastic homemade fertiliser, but you can use any balanced fertiliser.”
Banana peels can be a boon for pot plants, either laid atop the soil or steeped in water to create a nutrient-rich solution.

The plant expert further advised: “The general rule of thumb is to fertilise your plants once every two to three waterings in spring and summer and reducing this back to as low as once every four waterings when the growing season is over in autumn and winter.”
However, the key to successful fertilisation is closely tied to the overall condition of the plant. If it’s experiencing rapid growth, it can handle a slightly more generous application of plant food.
A tell-tale sign that a peace lily needs water is when it begins to droop or wilt. This is the ideal time to replenish its hydration.
Hannah advised thoroughly drenching the soil with water until excess water starts to drain from the bottom of the pot.
Hannah said: “Peace lilies originate in tropical rainforests with high humidity, so will benefit from misting from time to time.
“If you use a humidifier and hydrometer, then aim for an average humidity of 60 percent to 70 percent to keep your houseplant thriving.”
For those who tend to overwater their houseplants, the expert suggested repotting them in terracotta pots. This material helps speed up the drying process of the soil, thereby reducing the risk of root rot, which can be fatal for the plant.
