The mother of quarterback  has said the sacrifices she made as a parent were worth it as her son appears for his sixth final appearance. On February 16, Kansas will face the Philadelphia Eagles in NFL’s showpiece event at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, with the 29-year-old set to play a pivotal role.

Mahomes, already a three-time winner, has been one of the stars of his sport since being drafted to the Chiefs in 2017 after graduating from Texas Tech College.

That’s despite his father, Pat, being a former Major League Baseball pitcher. His mother is Randi Martin, with the pair divorcing in 2006 when Mahomes was just 10.

And now Martin has opened up on the hours of dedication that were required to allow Mahomes and brother Jackson to compete in sport. In a question and answer session posted on her page, the 51-year-old touchingly described how all her weekends were taken up by travelling to events and tournaments.

“It’s a takeover,” she replied. “Between driving a far distance to these tournaments that last all day and all night, it seems. To taking little naps in my car in between games, letting the kids play, and, you know, taking naps as other parents are helping out. So, a lot of teamwork goes into it.

“It takes over your life so I just learn to enjoy it. I look back now, and I’m like, I miss that. I would do anything to go back to those every weekend of the month tournaments because now I look back and it was a really special time of my life. One-on-one with my kids, it was pretty magical.”

Martin also offered advice to any parent currently in a similar situation: “I would definitely tell them to take a breath and enjoy the moments because in the blink of an eye, they’re grown.”

The former school principal, who also has a daughter named Mia, echoed similar sentiments as she captioned the footage. “I always get asked about raising my kids as athletes and let me tell you, the weekends blur together with tournaments, road trips, and naps in the car,” she wrote.

“But the best part are those quiet conversations and moments where it’s just me and my kids. It takes over your life so I just learn to enjoy it. I look back now, and I’m like, I miss that. I would do anything to go back to those every weekend of the month tournaments because now I look back and it was a really special time of my life.

“One-on-one with my kids, it was pretty magical. If you’re going through this right now, I’d say to cherish the ride, even when it feels exhausting. These moments are truly priceless!”

She added the hashtags #AthleteParenting and #SportsMomTips to the video and duly received a host of favourable comments from her 184,000 followers. And Martin is certain to be in New Orleans a week Sunday when her son looks to add to the Super Bowl winners medals he’s already won in 2019, 2022, and 2023.
