Mohamed Salah is one of eight Liverpool first-team players to have been left out of their Champions League trip to PSV. The Reds travel to the Netherlands having already topped the 32-team league after seven consecutive League Phase wins.

That means they are already guaranteed a home tie in the last-16, with now taking the chance to rest some key players.

And the Egyptian forward, whose future at Anfield continues to be the subject of speculation, will instead remain on Merseyside ahead of Saturday’s trip to Bournemouth.

According to the Athletic, goalkeeper Alisson, , Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Ryan Gravenberch, Alex Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Luis Diaz have also been left out. Slot has instead opted to take youngsters, with the likes of 17-year-old Trey Nyoni and Amara Nallo, 18, said to involved in the provisional 21-man squad.

Before the flight, Slot and his staff were seen overseeing a session with a sizeable squad at the AXA Training Centre. Joe Gomez was also involved, having not played since picking up a hamstring injury in December.

The Reds do need a point in Eindhoven to ensure themselves of top spot. A defeat, coupled by Barcelona beating Atalanta, will instead see the Catalan club take first place.
