Kay Burley’s heartache off Sky News as she shares update on sister’s cancer battle

Fans of may not be aware that presenter has been facing a heartbreaking situation off-screen. The news reader has previously kept fans in the loop as her ‘baby’ sister, Jacqueline, has been battling cancer.

In a fresh update today, the 64-year-old presenter shared some good news. Sharing a sweet snap of them smiling into the camera together on her account.

Kay emotionally penned: “The best of news. My baby sister Jacqueline is cancer free.

“She has been through hell and back for the last 18 months but today she was given the all clear by her oncologist. My heart swells for her and the family.”

Some of the star’s 50,000 social media followers flooded the comments with support and well wishes. One wrote: “That’s lovely news, Kay… Beautiful post.”

Another added: “Incredible news! Very happy for all the family,” while a third penned: “Great news!

“I know how that feels after having breast cancer. She will now feel she has her life back. Heres to the future!”

One more person added: “Very happy for you both and for all the family many blessings.”

After finding out about her sister’s diagnosis, Kay previously told press: “She’s my kid sister, she’s got three grandchildren under three and, to be honest, I wish I had it instead of her. I would rather it was me than her.”

She also shared that she had lost her mum to cancer, so it isn’t the family’s first time facing the deadly disease.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain in 2018, the TV host revealed: “My mum died when she was my age. My little boy was eight months old. It still makes me sad actually just to think about it.”

She added: “I remember her saying to me at the time, ‘I’m going to die’ and I said, ‘I can’t live without you’. And she said, ‘You are going to have to darling and look after your daddy’.”

The journalist carries an 80 per cent chance of being diagnosed herself and has regular mammograms and ultra sounds to monitor it.

Speaking about a potential diagnosis in her future, Kay said: “Thankfully it’s a disease that you tend to live with rather than die from. It’s not a death sentence like it was for my mother 25 years ago.”
