BBC Silent Witness fans ‘can’t watch’ as they beg for show to ‘stop’ after opening scenes

BBC viewers have been left shocked by the graphic content in the latest episode of Silent Witness.

The forensic drama made a Tuesday night return (January 28) with part two of the gripping Vanishing Point storyline.

In Monday’s chilling opener, audiences saw Dr Nikki Alexander (played by Emilia Fox) embroiled in a mysterious and life-threatening health emergency, following her flight from Mumbai to London.

But it was the continuation of this harrowing tale on Tuesday that had viewers recoiling, as graphic depictions of illness filled their screens right after the opening credits.

The immediate onslaught of unsettling visuals prompted a reaction from fans, some taking to Twitter to voice their displeasure. One viewer lamented: “Oh God the vomiting Immediately. Stop it.”

Another expressed disgust, saying: “That was gross, just put me right off my supper ffs.”

And yet another stated uneasily: “Oh my stomach. I can’t watch people vomiting.”, reports the Mirror.

Amidst the fictional viral outbreak onboard the aircraft, some eagle-eyed fans pointed out the glaring absence of face masks, which was noted as an odd choice given the circumstances being depicted.

Critics highlighted how both Dr Nikki and the plane’s crew neglected the protective measure, adding another level of realism to the complaints surrounding the episode.

Fans took to the internet to express their opinions, with one stating: “Erm.. firstly I’d be passing round masks to everyone on the plane then I’d be securing a lifelong deal with this s**t airline for biz/1st class seats forever for interfering with my flight home.”

Another viewer questioned the show’s realism, commenting: “All rather far fetched, what happened to doctors using face masks? ? ” Meanwhile, a third pointed out the lack of protective gear, saying: “Pathologist all suited up while those on the plane are not even wearing a mask or wearing gloves.”

As the episode progressed, Nikki and her forensic team delved into the cause of the illness on the plane. It was eventually revealed by Nikki that the incident was not random but a deliberate attack.

Silent Witness is available to watch on IPlayer.
