Edu has since agreed a deal in principle to take up a role with Evangelos Marinakis and his network of clubs, which includes Nottingham Forest and Olympiacos. Although the Brazilian will have to serve a period of gardening leave before formally starting his new position, he could quickly be brought into a head-to-head battle with his former employers.

According to , and Forest are both interested in Botafogo striker Igor Jesus, who is valued at just over £25million. The Gunners are exploring options to sign a striker before the winter window closes, so they are still in with a chance of poaching the centre-forward before Edu’s involvement begins. But a direct tussle could be unavoidable if it drags on until the summer.
