coach Andy Reid has thanked former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick for gifting him a secret weapon.

Reid will have the chance to cement his position as one of the greatest NFL coaches of all time when he aims to add a fourth Super Bowl ring to his collection next month.

If that wasn’t enough, the Kansas City outfit have an unprecedented three-peat on the line, having won each of the previous two Super Bowl titles.

But Reid issued a big thank you to NFL legend Belichick, who stands alone as the all-time record holder for most Super Bowl wins as a coach, during a recent podcast appearance.

Commenting on the Let’s Go podcast after the Chiefs’ victory over the Buffalo Bills last weekend, Reid was congratulated on how he managed to fix his side’s offensive line after a less-than-convincing playoff campaign.

Reid found joy by putting Joe Thuney in to protect Patrick Mahomes’ blindside – a move that helped the Chiefs into their fifth Super Bowl in six years.

The 66-year-old coach said: “Bill [Belichick] let me have Joe Thuney so I appreciated that.

“That kid, we have him out at left tackle now. Bill, you had him as an All-Pro center, All-Pro guard, now he’s out there at left tackle and he doesn’t say a word about it. He doesn’t complain.”

Reid continued: “That’s a whole different world out there. There’s no security blanket when you’re on that side. That’s a tough spot. But he just steps in and goes.”

Thuney is no stranger to the biggest of stages, considering this year’s Bowl will be his seventh as an NFL player, having made three previously for the Patriots and three for the Chiefs.

According to NFL legend Tom Brady said on The Drive: “I mean, he’s played every position on the offensive line and wherever we need him, he’s willing to go out there and do it.

“And that’s what champions do. They just go out there, they compete for every single snap and try to make their team better.

“So Joe Thuney is gonna go down in the history of football as one of the greatest players with all those Super Bowl rings he has, hopefully we can add to that collection.”

The Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles for the Super Bowl crown on 9 February.
