In the latest episode of A Place in the Sun, viewers were left gobsmacked as a couple embarked on a property hunt on Gozo Island.

During Tuesday’s (28 January) show, Nikki and Gordon, who were in search of their dream holiday home, enlisted the help of presenter Ben Hillman to navigate the real estate market on the picturesque island.

With a hefty budget of £350,000, the pair were eager to find an idyllic retreat for themselves and their beloved dogs. Ben Hillman, the show’s host, guided them through various properties, some hitting the mark while others fell short of expectations.

However, fans watching from home couldn’t help but comment on the property prices, noting that Nikki and Gordon’s substantial budget seemed insufficient for what was on offer. Many suggested that their money could stretch further elsewhere.

One viewer took to X to express their astonishment: “#aplaceinthesun£400k for an APARTMENT Gozo. I’d want half the island for that,” while another chimed in with disbelief, “B****y hell I thought they’d get a mansion not an apartment for that money. #aplaceinthesun.”

Another fan said: “Property 1 in #aplaceinthesun is like the first offer from the banker in #DealOrNoDeal. You just wouldn’t… B****y tiny for £360k, too!”

A third viewer exclaimed: “With their budget I’d want a bloody swimming pool not a property that looks like a block of flats! #aplaceinthesun,” while another concurred, remarking: “£360,000 doesn’t get you much in Gozo does it #aplaceinthesun.”

Nikki and Gordon were visibly taken with several properties but ultimately did not commit to buying a holiday home, as the episode concluded without a sale, reports .

Nonetheless, presenter Ben highlighted the couple’s “gamble” given they had not thoroughly visited Gozo before despite their intentions to buy a property there.

This sentiment struck a chord with viewers, one of whom commented: ‘”Maybe we’ll become permanent residents’… bold statement when they’ve never even visited the place before. FFS #aplaceinthesun,” and another stated: “Never been here before klaxon. Again. Happening all too regularly. Are #aplaceinthesun on the beg for potential buyers to feature…?”

airs on weekdays at 6pm on Channel 4
