Just days after the announcement of the death of DJ Unk, the Atlanta rapper known for mid-2000s hits like “Walk It Out” and “2 Step,” his wife has revealed the cause of his death.
On Sunday, the musician’s spouse, Sherkita Long-Platt, told TMZ that her husband died in his sleep on Jan. 24 after suffering from a heart attack.
She also shut down rumors that the artist’s death involved substance abuse, telling the outlet that he was not a drug user.
Long-Platt confirmed that DJ Unk, real name Anthony Leonard Platt, died at the age of 43 in a Facebook post on Friday. She did not disclose his cause of death at the time.
“Please respect me and my family. I just lost my husband and my kids just lost their father. Our life will never be the same,” she wrote, adding, “I LOVE YOU ANTHONY FOREVER.”
Big Oomp Records, one of DJ Unk’s former labels, also dedicated a post to the artist, praising him on Instagram as a “true ATL legend” on Saturday.
“It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that we announce the passing of a true ATL legend, Anthony Platt better known as ‘DJ Unk,’” the post said. “On behalf of Big Oomp Records and the BOR Family, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the countless fans who were touched by his artistry and spirit.”
