Deciding to get a dog is a commitment, and knowing what kind of breed you want is an important decision as you need to make sure it will fit in with your lifestyle.
A vet nurse named Jade took to to share her thoughts about what dog breeds would make the best family dogs, especially if you have younger children. She started the video by saying she would name them from smaller to bigger breeds, so you’ll be able to pick which one best suits your family’s lifestyle.
Cavalier King Charles
“Starting small, we’ve got the Cavalier King Charles, they are just adorable little dogs,” she said. “They’ve got the sweetest personalities, they fit in fantastically around your life, your family, your children. Very very plastered, and they are just so sweet, I just want to cuddle them.”
Staffordshire Bull Terrier
She then moved on to a slightly bigger breed – the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, which she argued was the ‘biggest baby’ out of all the dogs, and would make a great addition to families.
“They are the perfect nanny dogs, they will play with your children all day long, like they’ve got so much love to give and I couldn’t recommend the staffordshire bull terrier enough,” she said. “Now you do have to train them properly, okay, but as long as you train them properly, Staffies make great additions to families with children.”
Labrador & Golden Retriever
Moving on to the next on the list, she said: “Moving on from that, I’m gonna put the Labrador and Golden Retriever in the same category because they are both retrievers. But I will specify, make sure it is not a working Golden Retriever or Labrador because you will have your hands full.
“So, get yourself a nice show Labrador, show Golden Retriever, you cannot go wrong with a golden retriever or a labrador in my opinion. I have got both of them and I will have them for life, okay. I literally don’t think that you can go wrong with those dogs at all.”
Bernese Mountain Dog
Moving on to an even bigger breed, she said: “The Bernese Mountain Dog, those big ‘ol hairy buffoons, I love them. They are bouncy and fun and cuddly and just – they’re loyal and they’re wonderful.
“I really think a Bernese Mountain Dog makes a great addition to a family.”
Newfoundland dog
But if you want an even bigger dog, Jade said that the Newfoundland dog would be your best option. “Again, just a big, gentle giant that has got such a good reputation for being fantastic with children,” she said.
Always do your research before welcoming a new pet into your life. It is a huge commitment and you will also need to make time to provide plenty of training and stimulation for your new four-legged friend.
And make sure research a dog breed thoroughly before deciding to adopt. If you can, consider rescuing rather than buying from a breeder.
