Find out how your habits are affecting your body
A recent survey of 2,000 adults has revealed that many Brits have adopted various unhealthy habits. A new quiz, created by Dr. Crystal Wyllie in collaboration with Asda Online Doctor, aims to uncover how these habits might be affecting your body.
The quiz examines lifestyle factors such as water and alcohol consumption, daily step counts, and more, then calculates the potential impacts these habits may have on your health.
The survey shows seven in ten adults don’t consume the recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables daily. A third admitted to regularly eating processed foods, while 20% reported frequently drinking fizzy beverages.
Additionally, 16% said they never exercise, and 21% exercise only once or twice a week. Despite these patterns, only 18% considered their lifestyle unhealthy, citing insufficient sleep and a reliance on processed or sugary foods as the main culprits.
Looking ahead, 31% of respondents have set a New Year’s resolution to lose weight, with the average person aiming to shed a stone and a half. Meanwhile, 9% are striving to lose three stones or more.
To reach these goals, just over half plan to increase their exercise frequency, and 39% intend to maintain a balanced diet. However, one-in-ten individuals will resort to weight loss supplements, like fat-reducing injections.
For those looking to break unhealthy habits and reach their weight goals, Dr Wyllie warned of potential obstacles.
She noted: “A common issue people face is trying to do too much, too soon incremental changes, in different areas of life, are key to making slow and steady progress. Getting healthier and losing weight doesn’t mean overhauling your life overnight.”
She advocates focusing on long-term modifications, such as consuming a balanced diet rich in whole foods, drinking plenty of water, and discovering physical activities you genuinely enjoy, making you more inclined to do them regularly.
Dr Wyllie added: “If you would like additional support to lose weight, speak to your doctor about weight loss treatments.”
