Tributes are flooding in for a 20-year-old man killed by a falling tree in County Donegal during Storm Éowyn.

“True gentleman” Kacper Dudek was driving on the N14, north of Lifford, near the Northern Irish border, when the incident occurred on Friday.

Those that knew him described the Polish-born man “gentle soul” who was “very well respected in the area.”

Father Michael McCaughey said he was “very well known and respected, and this has certainly caused a lot of pain and sadness for the local people”.

According to the Irish Mirror, Mr Dudek was performing a U-turn after coming across a road accident in the early hours of Friday morning. It was during this manoeuvre that the storm uprooted a tree and crushed his car.

Garda forensic collision investigators, as well as other officers, arrived at the scene on Saturday, while a family liaison officer (FLO) was assigned to provide support Mr Dudek’s family.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed to the Irish Mirror that investigations are ongoing.
