A £35,000 pumping station was on sale on Rightmove
If you’re hankering after a home that will really set you apart then one property that’s hit the market could be just the pick.
In the picturesque seaside town of an historic pumping station has been listed for an astonishingly low £35,000 – and has gone wild over it.
Housing influencer @HousingHorrors, known for his unfiltered takes on quirky properties, posted a video showcasing this strange listing, calling the space “insane” and unlike anything he’d ever seen before.
The property, which was once used to pump water into the town from the , has now been reduced to what some might call a bizarre, bunker-like living space.
“I was genuinely not expecting this for £35,000,” said in his viral video. “This is a bargain here. It’s literally like an underground bunker!”
The property will be going up for auction
Inside, the tiny space is far from ordinary. At just 4.75 meters by 2.82 meters, the main room is cramped yet functional, with a small kitchenette featuring a mini fridge, microwave, and a sink.
There’s even a bespoke pull-down bed tucked away against the wall.
But that’s not all, the property also features a tiny bathroom with a shower, toilet and wall-mounted wash hand basin.
And while it might not be the most luxurious living arrangement, the compactness and starkness of it all have left many viewers puzzled, yet intrigued.
Housing Horrors describes the station’s vibe as “insane.” He said: “You wouldn’t really be able to fit many people in here.”
He admits that living in such a space might be practical for a solo traveller or someone looking to live off-grid.
“If you’re a single person and you just want to live off-grid, this property is definitely for you.”

But practicality, it seems, is another matter. He questions how warm the property might be and whether it could realistically work as a permanent home. “I wonder if this would do well for an Airbnb for travellers or adventurers,” he added. “It’s definitely a very unique and interesting property.”
The listing for the station was marketed as “a rare opportunity to acquire a unique pumping station” with “a multitude of uses (subject to any relevant planning permission).”
The property, listed by Stacey Mann, has been removed from Rightmove. The estate agent has confirmed it will be going up for auction next week.
The description alluded to its historical significance, but it’s unclear whether the structure is still functioning as a pumping station, or if it’s just a relic of the past now being offered up for alternative purposes.
Penzance itself, a charming port town on the southern coast of Cornwall, boasts stunning scenery, art deco buildings, and convenient travel links.
Housing Horrors added: “I don’t really know how practical this property is… I mean, it’s definitely unique.”
