The UK Government has issued a warning to Brits that certain passport complications could not only result in being denied boarding at the airport, but could also incur costs of up to £100 to resolve.
Unclear details and holes, cuts and stains on passsport pages are just some of the reasons holidaymakers would be refused travel.
As per the website: “If your passport is damaged you must replace it. You may not be able to with it.”
Here are five passport issues that could derail your travel plans:

Any of the pages are ripped, cut or missing

There are holes, cuts or rips in the cover

The cover is coming away

There are stains on the pages (for example, ink or water damage).

If you find yourself with a passport with damage that fits any of the flagged issues, you can replace it online for £88.50.
In order to use the ’s online service, you’ll need to upload a digital photo, pay by credit or debit card, and ask someone to confirm your identity online.
If you choose the traditional paper route, you will have to shell out £100.
You can get a paper application form by going to the Post Office or calling the Passport Adviceline.
For this method, you will also need two new and identical printed photos of yourself.

If your passport is damaged you may not be able to travel with it.
The Government website advises that passport processing typically takes up to three weeks but warns: “It may take longer than three weeks if we need more information or we need to interview you.”
“We’ll tell you this within three weeks. There are different turnaround times if you’re applying from another country,” it further states.
If you’re short on time, there is a one-day premium service available for £207.50 (or £219.50 for the 54-page frequent traveller option).
With this service, you can book an appointment just two days after applying, and pick up your passport just four hours after your appointment., reported.
You can also opt for a one-week fast track service offering next-day appointments, with passport delivery via courier one week later.
