However, while the trend used to be for people to hop abroad for a weekend to Tenerife or France, the experts at now say they are seeing a rise in popularity of permanent relocations to farther flung destinations.
Executive director Simon Hood, has found more and more young people frequent his services and the trends outlay Brits are looking beyond the continent for relocations.
One of the countries that is proving popular among younger Brits is Malaysia. John Mason International has seen a 29% surge in short to long-term relocations between 2019-2023.
Simon explains Malaysian authorities have launched several schemes to attract British talent too.

“Offers of flexible entry and exit arrangements for up to twenty years make this an attractive option for those looking to work abroad or simply wait out those cold British winters.”

With year round high-temperatures and white beaches, areas like Phuket, Krabi and Koh Samui have long been favourites with those seeking sun and sea.

Simon said:“Thai authorities have taken a different approach to long-term visitors and relocations in recent years. Launched during the pandemic, the Special Tourist Visa allows long-term stays of up to 270 days – albeit extended periodically it’s one to keep an eye on.”
When it comes to why Gen Z is leading the charge, Simon credits for the change.
