The unusual two ingredients Queen Elizabeth always used for her delicious scrambled eggs

was known across the globe for being the longest reigning monarch in the UK, reaching 70 years on the throne before her sad passing in 2022.

While many knew her for her dedication to service and public duty, others saw a different side to the late Queen, who behind-closed-doors was not too dissimilar to others.

As well as her family and friends knowing what the late Queen was really like behind the crown, palace staff also got an insight into Her Majesty’s life at home behind Palace walls, including her chefs.

, one chef who worked at revealed some of Queen Elizabeth’s most unusual food preferences, including two ingredients she likes with scrambled eggs for breakfast.

The chef revealed that the late Queen enjoyed lemon zest and nutmeg with the scrambled eggs to give them a citrusy and mildly sweet taste.

According to the chef, for every three eggs, a tablespoon of lemon zest and a pinch of nutmeg would be added, along with all the ordinary ingredients. These should be added before the eggs set.

As well as having a preference for her scrambled eggs, it has also previously been said that the late Queen liked to eat healthily.

Grant Harrold, the former butler of King Charles – who served the then Prince of Wales between 2004 and 2011 – exactly what Her Majesty enjoyed eating.

He said: “Queen Elizabeth liked fish, meat, and it had to be well done. She liked traditional things and it was always very healthy.”

This same preference for healthy eating is favoured by her son King Charles, who reportedly eats food that has been grown on the royal estates.

Grant shared: “He loves vegetables and he has a vegetable garden at Highgrove. Vegetables are always on the menu.

“If he was going to have a snack he is not going to be sitting there having a packet of crisps.”
