Manchester United will struggle to sign anyone before the January transfer deadline amid strong links to Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu and striker Christopher Nkunku, according to Wes Brown. United are reportedly set to sanction the sale of Alejandro Garnacho if the club’s £60million asking price is met in the coming week.
With Antony already out the door, joining Real Betis for the remainder of the season, and loans for Marcus Rashford and Tyrell Malacia explored, will need reinforcements.
Brown has claimed that selling Garnacho to wouldn’t make sense, although he accepts that Amorim’s players have been mediocre.
However, the former Red Devils defender is sceptical about whether United can sufficiently fill the void left by the first-team departures midway through the season.
“I think any player at United will know that the standard isn’t high enough. Does that make sense? It’s just not high enough,” Brown told Express Sport with NewBettingSites.uk.
“We need to be doing a lot better at home. Sometimes, the way we start is very flat. I just hope the players understand what it means [to play for United].
“The levels are not good enough, and they need to be doing better in training and in the games.
“Because when signings do happen, and I think we will struggle in January for signings, but in the summer, I think you’ll see, regardless of how well we play from now to the end of the season, the manager bringing some of his players that he wants to sign.”

United have identified Dorgu as their top January target but are yet to return to the table after Lecce rejected a £25million bid earlier this week.
Amorim desperately needs a left-wing-back, but there is a reluctance to meet the Serie A outfit’s £34m valuation.
Alvaro Fernandez is reportedly being considered as an alternative. He’s available for just £15m due to a buy-back clause United included in his Benfica contract last summer.
Meanwhile, the Old Trafford giants are said to have discussed a potential loan swoop for Christopher Nkunku during talks with regarding Garnacho.
But while Brown doubts there will be any incomings at all, he has his doubts about whether Amorim is genuinely interested in a potential swap deal involving players.
He added: “I think you look to players that are up and coming, while obviously still doing really well this season or the season before. You know that consistency is there.
“And like I said, they might be a player that the manager knows where he’s thinking, ‘Yeah, you’d be perfect in the system’ for whatever reason.
“But no, I don’t think the manager is sort of looking that way, to be honest, but we’ll have to wait and see.
“Again, I don’t think the funds are there to do it in January, and players will still have to leave as well. So it’s a tough situation at the moment for the sort of transfer bit.”
