Canucks: Star prospect Jonathan Lekkerimaki crashes headfirst into boards

Playing for the Abbotsford Canucks, Lekkerimaki appeared to injure his head or shoulder crashing into the end boards in a game in Tucson.

The winger crashed headfirst into the end boards midway through the third period of a game in Tucson against the Roadrunners.

With his team up 6-2, Lekkerimaki was backchecking but lost an edge and crashed. If his head didn’t take the brunt of the collision with the boards, it was his right shoulder.

On video he was writhing in pain while lying on the ice.

Play stopped immediately and his teammates rushed to his side.

Lekkerimaki has 14 goals in 23 AHL games this season and two goals in 11 NHL games this season.

More to come.
