Canucks: Jonathan Lekkerimäki being evaluated after crashing headfirst into boards Saturday

The 2022 first-round draft pick went awkwardly into the end wall in the third period of Abbotsford’s 6-2 win in Tucson

Lekkerimäki, 20, was the Canucks’ first-round pick (No. 15 overall) in the 2022 NHL Draft. He has 14 goals and 21 points in 24 games with Abbotsford. He leads the team in goals and is second in shots (87) despite missing out on 15 games with Abbotsford (22-15-1-1). He’s tied for second in the AHL in game winners (5).

He missed Abbotsford games early in the year with an undisclosed injury and has also been called up to Vancouver for 11 games, where he’s put up two goals and three points.

Abbotsford has won eight straight and sits fifth in the AHL’s Pacific Division. They’re at the Coachella Valley Firebirds Wednesday.
