BBC One’s Call the Midwife welcomes a new face, Sister Catherine, as she embarks on her midwifery training at Nonnatus House. The character is portrayed by Molly Vevers who, in her inaugural episode, partners with Nurse Crane (Linda Bassett) on a particularly demanding case.
Molly Vevers, a London-based actress, was born in Wales and still has family ties there. She is a recognised figure in theatre and television, known for her role as Heather Shaw in Amazon Prime Video’s series The Rig.
Her theatrical repertoire includes Othello, Nora: A Dolls House, Seanmhair and The Snow Queen. In a conversation with English Touring Theatre about her experiences touring with stage shows, she revealed her favourite destination to be Shanghai, saying “it was like nowhere I’d ever experienced before, hectic and fast-paced but so interesting. Incredible food too”.
Expanding on her passion for food and travel, she said: “In an ideal world, I want to be out and about trying food from wherever I am visiting. I love cooking at home but when I’m touring I definitely want to be tasting food from new and exciting places.”
The actress also maintains an active presence, keeping fans updated on her other interests, such as running and exploring new cities.

She shared her feelings about her debut on Call the Midwife and admitted to being “nervous” while filming her first birth scene.
She elaborated: “It’s very technical. There are lots of tricks in the way that they film the birth, which you don’t really know about in advance.”
“You’re working to get the wide shot and the close up, and then the baby comes in at the last minute.”
“I just remember on the first birth that I did, there was a lot of build up to the baby finally arriving. So that started to make me quite nervous.”
