Here’s a roundup of crime news from around Metro Vancouver and B.C. on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025

A home in Newton was shot up overnight, say Surrey police, leaving property damage but no apparent injuries.

Callers reported several shots fired in the area of 142nd Street and 72nd Avenue shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday, before the sound of a vehicle speeding away.

Officers from the Surrey Police Service and RCMP support unit found evidence that a home had been shot at and property damage.

Witnesses reported a light-coloured sedan took off after the shooting.

The crime scene is being scoured Sunday and 72nd Avenue might be shut down temporarily in either direction at times so officers can collect evidence.

A 25-year-old man walking through the intersection of 66th Avenue and Scott Road in Delta Sunday morning suffered “serious and extensive” injuries when he was hit by a car.

The driver of the vehicle — described as a black car, likely a sedan — took off before first responders arrived. The car had been headed south on Scott Road at the time of the crash.

Anyone who saw the crash, has dashcam or CCTV footage, or has information about the vehicle and driver involved is asked to call Delta police at 604-946-4411.

Scott Road remained closed early Sunday afternoon between Wade Road and 64th Avenue.

VPD seek driver in serious pedestrian collision

Police are asking a driver involved in a serious pedestrian crash late last week to come forward and speak to investigators.

The crash on Friday around 5:30 p.m. was at Inverness Street and East 62nd Avenue.

A 69-year-old woman was hit by the driver of a white or silver four-door sedan. She remains in hospital in critical condition.

“The driver of the sedan stayed with the pedestrian until paramedics arrived,” said Const. Tania Visintin in a statement Sunday. “Investigators have not spoken with him yet, and are asking him, or anyone who saw what happened, to call police immediately.”

Witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage is asked to call the VPD collision investigation unit at 604-717-3012.
