All Creatures Great and Small star makes huge announcement about show’s future

All Creatures Great and Small star, , has confirmed that series six of the much-loved drama is currently in the works. The actor, best known for his role as , shared that he will be back as part of the cast – depsite bagging himself a new job away from TV.

The 31-year-old actor has been busy starring in Mark Giesser’s adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s The Devil’s Disciple stageplay, The Devil May Care. He plays Richard Conroe, the play’s titular ‘Devil’ character, in a darker turn than the television work he is known for.

Speaking about taking on the new role, Callum exclusively told : “It’s been quite a while since I’ve sat in front of a live audience so it has been very very nerve wracking. I’m really enjoying it though. It’s nice to be doing a different style of work as it keeps things fresh.

“It’s also a different character. It’s very different to the TV work that I do. It’s an American accent for one thing, so that’s really exciting.”

When asked how he perfected his accent he said: “Growing up I was always doing accents. I picked them up watching TV shows. For the American accent it was Friends. I’m sure that will come as no surprise!”

Callum explained how the stage show differs to his TV work, as he shared: “With All Creatures and Tristan Farnon, it goes without saying I absolutely love the show and I love the character to death.

“I remember getting the role, nearly six years ago now, and coming up with the character and doing research into the time, sorting helping to solidify this character that I was going to play.

“Ever since then, whenever we come back for a new series I don’t necessarily feel like I need to do all of that same work. Obviously I do work to help me get back into character and into the time period, but I’ve sort of already done all of the work on who the character is and how I’m going to play it.”

The actor then let spill that a brand new season of the Channel 5 show is very much already in the works. “We’ve just finished series five last year,” he explained. “It’s just finished airing. We will be going back to film series six at the end of February.

“I’ll pretty much be finishing this play, and have a couple of weeks off and then straight up to Yorkshire again.

“I have no idea about what is happening is series six yet, we haven’t yet been sent scripts. I’m eagerly awaiting to find out what happens as much as yourself.”

When asked what he hopes is in store for the new series, Callum said: “For Tristan, personally, I’ve sort of always hoped that he would end up finding his version of Helen, that James has. Someone that he can settle down with, understands what he is like and is happy to put up with him.

“Other than that, I just want him to continue in his path to maturing really. But without losing that sense of who he is.”

When asked how much longer he plans to be on the show, Callum replied: “As long as it makes sense”. He explained: “Because in the real history of the characters, Tristan did actually go and start to work in the agricultural department and stepped away from the vetinary practice.

“But I think we might be differing from that slightly, so that Tristan can stay in. But yeah, as long as it makes sense I definitely will be in the show.”
