Severance fans convinced small moment could confirm tragic Dylan theory

Severance fans may have stumbled upon some key details about Dylan G’s (portrayed by Zach Cherry) life outside the office.

Since the first season, it has been established that Dylan’s ‘Outie’ is a family man with a wife and three children.

However, he sacrificed time with them last season to trigger the overtime contingency for his colleagues, Mark S (Adam Scott), Irving B (John Turturro) and Helly R (Britt Lower). The second episode of the new season, Goodbye, Mrs Selvig, continues with the Outies after the finale, with Mr Milchick (Tramell Tillman) informing Dylan and Irving that their ‘Innies’ have been sacked.

Both are left outraged, particularly Dylan, who was informed that his Innie had caused a violent incident. Dylan immediately starts looking for a new job but finds it nearly impossible due to being severed.

A particularly uncomfortable interview at Great Doors ends disastrously when he discloses he underwent the procedure, and Dylan feels prejudiced against when it becomes apparent he didn’t get the job.

We also briefly hear his wife Gretchen (Merritt Wever) on the phone, possibly hinting at her appearance later in the season.

However, viewers speculate there’s a reason why we’ve not seen her yet and a crucial question from Dylan during his interview could provide some answers. “There’s probably a reason why we haven’t seen Dylan’s wife, just heard her,” one Severance fan posted on after the episode aired.

“They’re gonna bring some rando actor into the Outie visitation suite posing as his wife and then they’re gonna show us someone different as his actual wife,” they continued.

“That would be so Lumon. The only thing they can’t fake is the kid because he’s seen him.”

Fan theories are swirling after Dylan’s Innie was shown blueprints for a new area at the Lumon office where his family could briefly visit, but sceptics suspect it might be a ploy to ensure his compliance, with dark secrets about his real wife’s condition being concealed.

Other comments from viewers include: “We probably haven’t seen her because she’s paralyzed or in a wheelchair or something.

“His first question when he got fired was what will I tell my wife, and at the job interview he specifically asked about health benefits for his family.”

Debates among fans are rife, with suggestions ranging from a sick child — “My guess is he has a sick baby,” — to hints of deeper motives for Dylan severing ties, such as better focusing on family needs due to good pay and benefits, as one fan remarked: “This would also make sense on why he’s severed.

“Good pay, good benefits, but can focus more on family at home since work can’t occupy his brain.”

And finally, conjecture about the significance of health insurance to Dylan’s story is rife, with a fan predicting: “Just going off what I know of the rules of television writing I think the health insurance is significant to Dylan for a reason we’ll find out later.”

However, some viewers have argued that the question is a common one in job interviews and, given Dylan’s known interest in company perks, it may not be as significant.

Mark S is already struggling to cope with the revelation that his wife Gemma, also known as Ms Casey (Dichen Lachman), is alive.

But could Lumon be concealing information about another Innie’s family?

Severance season 2 continues Fridays on Apple TV+.
