Viewers of The 1% Club noticed the show had made a key change, as the quiz show hosted by Lee Mack returned for a fourth season – and they were not happy.
The producers ramped up the tension with extra beats at the end of the time contestants had to answer. They also changed how they revealed exactly how many of the people hoping to win a potential £100,000 had got a question wrong.
Now, each player is lit up with a blue light when they are eliminated, and a dramatic noise is played.
Unimpressed fans took to X to air their grievances. “@1PercentClubITV I don’t like the extra beats that have been added to the sting as the end of the answering period,” one complained, tagging the show.
“#1percentclub Not a fan of this new squid game style execution #onepercentclub #1%club #1percentclub,” another announced.

Lee Mack was back as the host of The 1% Club on ITV for a fourth series
“Anyone else finding the elimination lights thing a bit jarring?” a third wrote. “Can’t say I’m a fan of them showing who’s been eliminated before they say how many have been,” another opined.
“Doing well so far but the new mode of turning your lights blue is making me feel second hand anxiety for the contestants,” a fifth wrote. This prompted the show to respond: “We’ve levelled up what can we say? #The1PercentClub.”
“What’s the reason for the extra tension and showing the people before showing how many are out?” a fourth enquired.
“Is it too hot for you to handle? #The1PercentClub,” he show responded. “Not at all but I prefer the original,” the viewer clapped back.
Changes were made to the Lee Mack hosted show Teh 1% Club and viewers were not happy
However some viewers seemed to be enjoying it. One gushed: “1% Club Special Effects budget been given a big boost this season queens x #1%Club #1PercentClub #OnePercentClub.”
Despite the changes the contestants valiantly tried to make it through to the 1% question.
Sadly for most of them it was not to be and two players eventually ended up sharing the prize pot.
