BBC Casualty’s Jodie Whyte star opens up on ‘delirious’ night shoots for show

Jodie Whyte (played by Anna Chell) and Dylan Keogh (Will Beck) are front and centre of the current storyline, which has seen Jodie sleep with Aaron, the husband of a woman who died after they delivered her baby following a dramatic car crash into the restaurant they were eating in.

She has inadvertently made him think that Dylan chose not to save his wife in the crash, and he has subsequently reported Dylan to the hospital, which could have had huge repercussions for the medic.

The latest storyline on the long running medical drama, entitled Public Property, kicked off on December 28 with the shocking crash scene, which took five nights to film leaving the cast “delirious”.

Speaking exclusively to Anna opened up about the intense scenes and getting to work closely with Will, which she described as “a buzz”.

“We were on location doing the first episode for a week, and it was all night shoots. So we were literally there from 7pm at night until 7am in the morning,” she revealed.

“Everyone gets a bit delirious on night shoots but I felt really comfortable in working with Will and really safe. He’s a really great guy, and I was really excited to sort of be a part of the storyline with him,” she said.

“I love working with him. We get on really well. And I find everything, every scene that we do, every take that we do, is different and it’s really nice, because it probably keeps you, keeps you focused, keeps you on your toes.

“And I think it’s so great because each time something fresh comes out, he’s so intelligent that we can speak about every scene we do really openly.

“We have really good discussions about the dialogue and about the character’s choices and stuff, and it’s just been a buzz to work with him,” she smiled.

The scene that kicked off all the current drama for the Holby ED stalwarts was the car crashing into the restaurant and it is the kind of big stunt Casualty is famous for.

However it is not the first time Anna found herself in the middle of such a massive and dangerous scene, despite only being on the show for two years.

“In terms of a big car crash, it was a big stunt we had. But I was part of – Jodie was in a bomb scare and we had a man on fire in that episode and a few explosions and stuff.

“She was very involved because the bomb exploded, but that was cool. And she got (her drink) spiked. She got thrown out of a car…Honestly, there’s been some really good fun moments for me to act, but also really traumatic times for Jodie,” Anna reflected.

New episodes of Casualty are on One on Saturday nights. Previous episodes are available to watch on iPlayer.
