BBC Breakfast fans rage at Storm Eowyn report as they ask ‘why would you do this?’

sparked fury as the show decided to send a weather reporter out into the furious winds and rain to talk to the studio about Storm Eowyn.

Speaking to Sara Girvin in a dark, cold and windy Donaghadee in Northern Ireland, and learnt that a red weather warning has come into effect in Northern Ireland with winds of more than 85 miles per hour.

Sara told the studio: “The wind is really picking up, when those gusts hit you, they really hit you and lots more waves come over that sea wall behind me.

“You’re talking about a record-breaking gust of wind, and you’re quite right, one at 114mph has been recorded in Galway in the Republic of Ireland, so it gives you an idea about how serious conditions are there.

“Every single school is closed, lots of public buildings are closed, flights are cancelled, hospital appointments are cancelled,” as she added that public transport had also been affected, and business had closed for the day.

She also warned that were likely to power outages, with thousands of homes set to be affected in Northern Ireland.

But fans were more interested in Sara’s safety, as they rushed to social media to share their horror at someone having to stand in the fierce storm.

One viewer said: “RNLI are saying stay away from the coastline & you have 2 reporters by the coast.”

Another added: “The red warning advises people to stay at home/indoors yet the Beeb think it’s ok to send reporters to the worst areas.”

A third agreed: “Red Weather Warning , Flying debris , risk to life etc….you could at least give this courageous woman a crash helmet.”

A fourth chimed in: “Warnings go out !! Yet the sends reporters out …….its senseless.”

A fifth raged: “Why on earth do you have reporters outside in Northern Ireland and Scotland reporting that people should stay inside if possible. Why? Just why? Make them go inside…and away from rivers.”
