In an episode of which aired back in 2017, Paul and Christina Trevanion tried to find antiques which would earn them the best profit at auction.
During the show, Paul was automatically drawn to one item, which he found almost instantly. He told viewers: “How far am I from the door? Three paces (to the shop) and that’s what I’m buying.”
Explaining his reasoning behind the brash decision, the star explained the small glass was only £1 and dated back to the 1700s. He informed viewers the item was a sweetmeat dish, which can also be a cake stand.
Paul started to inspect the miniature glass closer, complimenting the handiwork to create the knopped stem and folded foot the dish sat on.

Thrilled by the find, he added: “That is serendipity. It’s also a colossal bargain. The truth of the matter is, I think that’s worth, to a specialist collector, £100 of anyone’s money.
“I kid you not, three paces from the door, second shelf down on the bric-a-brac stall, ta-dah!”
When it was time to see how much his item would make at auction, Paul was left speechless. Straight away, the auctioneer started the bidding at £110.

Admitting the internet interest was soaring, the auctioneer continued to reel off the offers that were coming in. When it surpassed £200, Paul looked in disbelief as Christina applauded his bargain find.
Laughing at how much interest the glass was getting when the bids got to £360, Christina commented: “Ok, I’m just a passenger at this point!”
In the end, it ended up being sold for a whopping £360. Paul was thrilled as he laughed in triumph while putting his hands up in the air.

Giving him a huge embrace, Christina commented: “Well done, well done!” The voiceover for the show added: “Absolutely outstanding, an unbelievable profit.”
Mimicking bowing down to Paul, the expert couldn’t contain his giddiness as he continued to laugh. She remarked: “Wow, seriously. I am not worthy Paul Laidlaw. Well done.”
