We’ve all had those random pesky smells appear almost out of thin air, and so begins a hunt for a can of air freshener, that diffuser, or the scented candle – but one influencer has come to the rescue revealing a secret tip that can freshen up a room and uses just one common fruit.

Fragrances can bring a touch of luxury to a home and make a place feel like it’s yours, whether it’s a soft floral fragrance, or a bright citrussy smell – having a delicious-smelling room can make all the difference.

High-quality air fresheners and diffusers can set back a pretty penny, but in the name of everything that smells good, influencer Laura De Barra took to to reveal the hack she used when she managed around 30 homes.

In the video posted to her page she announced: “I’m going to show you something that once you start doing it, you’ll never look back.

“It’s literally as simple as adding some lemon to water and boiling it, but this was my absolute go-to when I was managing like 30 properties.”

What’s even better, is the simple freshener is completely natural with no chemicals or artificial smells, leaving a clean and crisp smell.

The influencer added: “I was always trying to use natural cleaning products because when you’re doing all that work you don’t want to be using loads of chemicals all of the time, so room sprays were not an option.

“I didn’t want to be using air fresheners and stuff like that because they are just full of c**p.”

Laura goes on to explain the science behind the trick but also states the simple hack can take just ten minutes to begin working and start to freshen up a room.

She claims the acidity in the lemon, once evaporated, can begin to break down the odours in the air, so instead of just masking the odours as room sprays may do, her hack removed the actual odour itself.

Boiling off lemon juice can not only have a benefit to your room but also make cleaning your oven easier. Laura leaves one last tip to keep the extractor fan off to let the steam rise up and into the fan.

She claims that the acidic lemon steam begins to break down the fatty and greasy sludge and gunk left up in the fan making life much easier when you get around to giving it a wipe down.

For those with a stench taking over a room but who don’t have a lemon to hand, Laura adds that white vinegar works just as well with the acidity acting in the same way.

Commenters were quick to praise the simple fix, but one viewer decided to add to the hack and take the scent to the next level adding cinnamon sticks and orange peel.
