Some Virgin River fans have caused a stir by confessing to fast-forwarding through parts of the latest season, which has been brimming with intense drama surrounding Mel Monroe (portrayed by Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan’s (Martin Henderson) nuptial arrangements on the hit series.
Mel’s journey introduced her bonding moments with her birth father Everett Reid (John Allen Nelson), while others in the town faced their own tumultuous situations.
Highlighted storylines included Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale), who initially found love with bar-worker Ricky (Grayson Gurnsey), prior to his commitment to the Marines and her subsequent romantic entanglement with Denny Cutler (Kai Bradbury), Doc Mullins’ surprise grandson (Tim Matheson).
Lizzie’s unexpected pregnancy and excitement for motherhood are marred by the tension in her romance with Denny, triggered by his Huntington’s disease diagnosis and the risk it poses to their child.
Even with the gravity of their plot, Lizzie and Denny remain polarising figures, leading one audience member to confess: “I’m really not into Denny.
Virgin River fans ‘skip scenes’ as key storyline ‘makes them cringe’
“He just doesn’t seem well placed at all and has a lack of emotion. Maybe he will grow on me, but idk”, reports .
“It feels like he was thrown in. I was never a huge fan of Lizzie but started to like her until the end of S3. Now I just don’t care for her.
“Denny is my least favourite. I’ve been skipping a lot of his scenes and Lizzy’s scenes. I’m kinda done with them.”
Despite their grievances, they confessed to still being fans of Mel and Jack and find the ongoing saga between Brie Sheridan (Zibby Allen) and Dan Brady (Benjamin Hollingsworth) compelling, they concluded that something “just seems off” about the latest seasons.
Other viewers echoed these sentiments in the comments section, including one who believes the series hasn’t fully utilised Denny as representation for Huntington’s disease.
Season six was all about Mel and Jack’s wedding
“Agree with Denny,” they responded. “Feels like it’s wasted potential – he could’ve been such an interesting character representing something that is pretty severe but real for a fair amount of people.”
Another viewer chimed in: “I agree, Denny’s acting makes me cringe and he’s barely even showing emotion.”
A different user expressed: “Same. I’m not even excited for season 7.”
However, Virgin River continues to have a strong fanbase despite the far-fetched drama, with many describing it as the perfect comfort watch.
Fans have branded Denny as ‘wasted potential’
“I think this show provides a great escape from my everyday stressors,” one commenter shared.
“I enjoy settling in after a long day and watching – even though unrealistic it has a certain charm to it. Sure some of the characters or plots annoy me yet I am looking forward to season 7.”
Other fans have suggested that disgruntled viewers should delve into the original books by Robyn Carr if they’re unhappy with the adaptation’s trajectory.
