“These plants typically require a period of dormancy followed by an environmental trigger, such as increased light, to initiate flowering,” Jansen began.

“Even in the midst of winter, with careful attention to their needs, you can still encourage your peace lily to produce its elegant white blooms.”

In order to do so, there are five tasks you need to do in January and beyond.

The first task is to “gradually shift the plant to a brighter spot with indirect sunlight”.

Jansen said another crucial factor is to “keep the temperature between 18C to 24C”. It’s also important to “water only when the top inch of soil is dry” and to “use a balanced fertiliser diluted to half strength every four to six weeks”.

Jansen added: “Use a humidifier or pebble tray to increase humidity around the plant.”

Five tasks to do

  1. Increase light
  2. Maintain warmth
  3. Water wisely
  4. Fertilise lightly
  5. Increase humidity

By ensuring all of the above four tasks are implemented in January, you are encouraging the peace lily to bloom.

But you must be patient; peace lilies will not bloom until the spring and, in some cases, can bloom as late as September.
